Program Description

The Emergency Management A.A.S. degree prepares graduates to react appropriately and professionally to situations in which the public might be put at risk by natural or manmade emergencies. Students are trained to assess, plan, mitigate, command and control professional responses to emergency situations. They also are trained to coordinate and evaluate the efforts of resource and operations personnel who deal with emergency situations and their aftermaths.

The Emergency Management degree has been developed in conjunction with the Federal Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the New York State Emergency Management Office. Further, the degree addresses the current organization of emergency management, such as the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the National Response Plan, and reflects the current approach to providing emergency management services.
