Facilities + Technology

The department is located on the 3rd floor of the Whitney Applied Technology Center.  This magnificent building opened in 1999 and was designed by the world-class architectural firm Mitchell/Giurgola Architects.  The building boasts many wonderful design features.

Highlights:

• Four drafting studios with approximately 18 student workstations in each studio space.
• CADLab with 20 student computer workstations with the latest releases of 2D and 3D programs including AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3D HomeArchitect and Photoshop installed on each computer. Workstations are networked to an HP color inkjet plotter and all have internet capability.
• Student study lounge and mini-library with two student computer workstations equipped like the CADLab stations. The library includes numerous architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, engineering, and office practice books, and an extensive array of current professional architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture magazines.
• The Seminar Room, aka “Jury Room,” is well-appointed with pin-up surfaced walls, dimmable lighting, track lighting, carpet, and comfortable seating. This room gets extensive use by design and graphics classes for reviews of student work.
• Interior Design Resource Area containing thousands of materials for student use on projects.
• Sample Room containing numerous construction materials to supplement classroom instruction.
• The student copy room houses a state-of-the-art xerographic engineering copier.
• There are over 80 individual lockers sized to hold models and portfolios available to all students.
• The department also enjoys a beautiful south facing outdoor terrace with umbrella-equipped patio tables and chairs.
• The department also enjoys magnificent panoramic views to the North from its 100 ft. long floor-to-ceiling glass curtainwall. Oswego, Downtown Syracuse, Onondaga Lake, Oneida Lake, and the Tug Hill Plateau are all visible in one entire view.
• The building and campus are fully accessible and secure 24 hour/seven days per week. Electronic card access is available to students in the department.
• Large student parking lots are available adjacent to the building.
