What to Bring and Not Bring

Use these lists to help plan what items to bring when living in a residence hall.

Suggested Items to Bring 

Suite Style Housing 
  •  Computer: Residence Halls are wireless compatible; however, it is suggested you bring an Ethernet cable)
  • Surge protector: It must say “surge protector” on the box and the device.  Fire Shield or First Alert surge protectors are the required brands. Any others will be confiscated and not returned. 
  • Mini-fridge: Five (5) cubic foot maximum 
  • Microwave oven 
    • You will only need one microwave per suite kitchen so talk to your suitemates to see who will bring a kitchen-sized microwave 
    • for use in bedrooms, approved MicroFridge® rentals only (one per bedroom) - www.mymicrofridge.com 
     
  • Extra-long shower curtain (two showers per suite) 
  • Shower caddy and shower shoes 
  • TV/cable wire for TV 
  • TV for suite living room: You will only need one TV for the suite living room, so talk to your suitemates to see who will want to bring the TV. 
  • Bedding for XL twin bed 
  • Dishes, pots, pans, silverware 
  • Laundry detergent/Laundry bag or basket 
  • Cleaning supplies (including vacuum cleaner) 
  • Alarm clock 
  • Toaster: Can only be used in the kitchen. You will only need one toaster per suite so talk to your suitemates to see who will bring a toaster 
  • Coffee pot: Can only be used in the kitchen and must have an automatic shut-off. You will only need one coffee pot per suite so talk to your suitemates to see who will bring a this item 
  • Towels 
  • Bathroom supplies (toilet paper, soap, bathmats, etc.) 
 
 Traditional Style Housing

Things to Leave at Home 

Please do not bring anything on the list below. They may be confiscated and not returned to you. 

  • Animals of any kinds (service animals, and fish that are kept in 5-gallon aquariums are allowed)
  • Kegs and beer balls, alcohol cans/bottles (full or empty), beer pong tables, funnels, or any other item affiliated with the consumption or possession of alcohol. Alcohol of any kind is not allowed within the residence halls.
  • Alcohol advertisements, signs or potentially offensive material in public viewing areas (including windows, hallways and doors)
  • Dartboards with metal tips or anything that needs to be hung with nails
  • Drums and/or electrically amplified instruments, including DJ equipment
  • Extension cords, multi-plug outlets or relocatable power taps (approved surge protectors are permitted)
  • Exterior television, radio antennas, or satellite dishes or any object that protrudes from a window or attaches to the exterior of a residence hall
  • Neon signs and strings of lights (including Christmas and rope lights) that do not meet URL requirements. (Must not hang on walls)
  • Halogen lamps, lava lamps, torchiere lamps, octopus lamps, or other high-intensity lamps
  • Indoor use of any athletic or recreation equipment, any hall sports/gaming, water fights, or horseplay
  • Live-cut Christmas trees and flammable decorations
  • Firearms, weapons, or other dangerous instruments which may cause injury or damage to person or property. This includes, but is not limited to: firearms, paintball guns, B-B guns, paintball guns, fireworks, knives, and archery equipment
  • Federal, state, college, local or other signs
  • Hot plates, quesadilla makers, toaster ovens, crock pots, sandwich makers, George Forman or Gas Grills
  • Propane cylinders or other flammable liquids
  • Candles, fireworks, explosives, charcoal/gas grills, oil lamps, incense or any combustible device (i.e., gasoline, benzene, flammable liquids, chemicals)
  • Waterbeds, hot tubs/Jacuzzis and non-college lofts and cinder blocks
  • Weightlifting apparatus (barbells, free weights, Solo flex machines, etc.)
  • No curtains/drapes unless flame resistant. (Must be able to show proof of flame resistance)
  • No "outside furniture" including futons, couches, etc.
     

NOTE:

  • Do not store items within 18 inches from a sprinkler head or within 2 feet from the ceiling
  • Do not move the furniture
  • Do not hang anything on the ceiling
  • Do not hang strings of lights on your walls, ceilings or in your rooms
  • Do not hang anything on or around sprinkler heads
